Rams Beat Chiefs In Highest-Scoring Monday Night Football Game Ever

Quarterback Jared Goff #16 of the Los Angeles Rams celebrates a touchdown by teammate Gerald Everett #81 during the fourth quarter of the game against the Kansas City Chiefs at Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum

The Los Angeles Rams and the Kansas City Chiefs had a battle for the ages on Monday night. The two teams had a combined score of 105 points, making it the highest-scoring Monday Night Football game in NFL history, and the third highest-scoring game ever. The Rams held on to a 54-51 win against the Chiefs at the Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum in a wild back-and-forth game.

The Rams jumped out to a fast 13-0 lead, but the Chiefs managed to battle back and tied the score at 23-23 going into the half. The Rams took ten point lead into the 4th quarter but the Chiefs kept putting up points and managed to take a 51-47 lead with just under three minutes left in the game.

The Rams managed to score quickly to take the lead just 58 seconds later on a six-play drive that was capped off by a 40-yard touchdown catch by Gerald Everett.

The Chiefs would end up getting the ball back twice in the final two minutes, but both drives ended with Patrick Mahomes interceptions, sealing the victory for the Rams.

While everybody was buzzing about the offensive prowess of both teams, who entered the game with matching 9-1 records, it was the defense that helped lead the way. The Rams had 21 points off of turnovers, including a fumble recovery and interception which were both run in for a touchdown by Samson Ebukam. The Chiefs also had had a fumble recovery for a touchdown early in the fourth quarter.

"It was a whirlwind," Rams coach Sean McVay said following the game. "I feel like I might need a couple beverages to relax tonight. But it was great. This is what you love so much about the game."
