The Washington Commanders reportedly traded former first-round pick Jahan Dotson and a fifth-round pick to the NFC East Division rival Philadelphia Eagles in exchange for a 2025 third-round pick and two seventh-round picks, sources with knowledge of the deal confirmed to ESPN's Adam Schefter on Thursday (August 22).
"A rare in-division trade: Washington is sending former first-round pick Jahan Dotson and a fifth-round pick to the Eagles in exchange for a 2025 third-round pick and two seventh-round picks, per sources," Schefter wrote on his X account.
Dotson, 24, was selected by the Commanders at No. 16 overall in the 2022 NFL Draft. The former Penn State standout is expected to fill the Eagles' void at the No. 3 wide receiver position, complementing stars A.J. Brown and DeVonta Smith, both of whom agreed to long-term contract extensions this offseason, in an offense that includes quarterback Jalen Hurts, tight end Dallas Goedert and recently-signed free agent running back Saquon Barkley.
Dotson recorded 49 receptions for 518 yards and four touchdowns during the 2023 NFL season, as well as a total 84 receptions for 1,041 yards and 11 touchdowns in 29 career games. The 24-year-old failed to solidify the Commanders' No. 2 wide receiver spot opposite Terry McLaurin during training camp and was considered to be a slot receiver prior to being traded.
