Former Clemson QB Hunter Johnson has won the starting job over former gamecock QB Ryan Hilinski at Northwestern.
Johnson spent his freshman season at Clemson going 21-27 passing for 234 yards and two touchdowns against an interception in 76 snaps over seven games. He moved on to Northwestern and sat out for a season due to the transfer. Appeared in six games with five starts as a junior, throwing for 432 yards and a touchdown while rushing for 64 yards and a score.He played in 2 games last season for the wildcats. Hilinski at South Carolina started each of the final 11 games of the 2019 season... completed 236-of-406 passes (58.1 pct.) for 2,357 yards and 11 touchdowns with five interceptions... averaged 214.3 passing yards per game, sixth in the SEC overall and tops among SEC freshmen, and 209.3 yards of total offense, eighth in the conference overall and third among the freshmen... tied the school’s freshman quarterback records for starts (11), while setting new marks for pass completions and attempts... also set the marks for a true freshman in passing yards and touchdowns.
