Random Wrestlemania night 1 thoughts

I normally write about everything in my blog. I write about tons of football, baseball, Etc. If you listen to the show, you know I love professional wrestling. This weekend is Wrestlemania weekend, the biggest show of the year. I grew up reading the best wrestling column in the country, written by Mike Mooneyham. He can bring the magic of professional wrestling to your eyes with his ability to weave the English language into the giant atmosphere of pro wrestling. I thought I would take a minute and give you some random thoughts on night 1 of the big event.

Match 1:

SmackDown Tag Team Championship -- The Usos (c) vs. Shinsuke Nakamura & Rick Boogs:

I had high hopes for this match. I think the Usos are a hell of a team. Nakamura is an icon that is underutilized in WWE. The big story was the Rick Boogs injury.

I think the finish was rushed. Happy thoughts for Boogs who ended up with a severe quad injury. Usos win and retain.

Match 2

Drew McIntyre vs. Happy Corbin

I was not really hyped for this match. I think we all knew McIntyre would win....and he did. I think the big thing was the sword spot at the end. which took down the ring ropes.

Match 3

The Mysterios vs. The Miz & Logan Paul

Why am I supposed to care about Logan Paul? Why is this guy getting ring time? What has he done? He comes to the ring wearing a valuable Pokemon card. Why is this supposed to matter at Wrestlemania? The match left me with more questions than answers. The Miz picks up the win over the Mysterios with his finish. I admit I was kind of happy when Miz dropped Paul. I hope Miz took the card with him when he left.

Match 4

Raw Women's Championship -- Becky Lynch (c) vs. Bianca Belair

This match had my interest for weeks. I think both of these women can really go in the ring. They went back and forth and told a story that was easy to follow. It came across as so physical. This match really set the bar high for the rest of the show. I thought it was fitting that Belair gets the win and another great Wrestlemania moment.

Match 5

Seth Rollins vs. Cody Rhodes

This match showcased 2 great workers in the ring. The return of Rhodes after a 6-year absence set the crowd on fire. I don't like the way Rollins laughs and acts like a fool for his character. I do like it when he is wrestling. Do more of that! Less laughing. Rhodes looked like he was at home on his return after his time with AEW. Rhodes gets the win. The questions begin now. What is next? Who can he feud with?

Match 6

SmackDown Women's Championship -- Charlotte Flair (c) vs. Ronda Rousey

Remember when Ronda Rousey was the baddest woman on the planet? Holly Holm kicked that title out of her. She is now a smiling young lady coming to the ring. Charlotte Flair is an absolute star. She has movie-star looks. She is an awesome athlete. She can carry anyone in a match. Despite that, this match came off sloppy. Rousey losing now turns her into a mid-card talent. Who is next for Flair? Bayley? Banks?

Match 7

Steve Austin vs. Kevin Owens

This match brought me back to my teenage years. The build-up was all on Owens. We did not get the traditional face-off between the 2 superstars. Owens talked those people into the match. The star was still Austin. The Rattlesnake did what Rattlesnakes do. He looked outstanding. This was not a technical masterpiece. This was a street brawl on steroids. Austin walking around drinking beer, and shutting up the "French Canadian" was a perfect way to end night 1.

I hope you enjoyed my random thoughts on the big show. I will be watching and tweeting tonight @RobSoundsgood
